SHILLONG, Sep 15: A brief commotion ensued near Harrison Bridge on Wednesday after police personnel prevented members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) from heading towards the Arts and Culture complex where the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is currently in session.
“This is neither an exhibition nor a protest. We just wanted to go and sit in the Assembly. We’ve got the passes from the undersigned Secretary in charge of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly since September 9 to attend the session scheduled for September 15,” said HITO president Donbok Dkhar as they displayed their passes.
Later during the day, the group wrote to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, seeking the reason behind the members being stopped by the police despite possessing the pass.
