Mawlai Phudmuri headman no more
SHILLONG, Sep 24: Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Phudmuri, Silvester Kurbah, fondly called ‘Bah Best’, passed away at his residence on Friday. He was 54. His funeral will be held at the Catholic Church Cemetery at Pata, Mawlai Mawdatbaki, on Sunday. It may be mentioned that Kurbah was recently elected as the chairman of “Ka Sur Ka Bri Hynniewtrep”, a conglomeration formed to press for suspension of top police officials reportedly involved in the killing of former HNLC leader, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew. Extending condolences to the family of Kurbah, Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie said, “His sudden demise is a great lost to the people of Mawlai Phudmuri”.
KHADC CEM inaugurates court
NONGSTOIN, Sep 24: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Titos Chyne, on Friday inaugurated the District Council Court, Nongstoiñ branch, expressing hope that it will create a better relationship between the court and people of West Khasi Hills. Addressing the inaugural programme, Chyne informed that the court will be functional by December. He said the Magistrate who is to take charge of the court is now undergoing training and will soon take charge.
City college to organise lecture
SHILLONG, Sep 24: Women’s College Shillong will organise the 12th Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Endowment lecture in the college auditorium on Saturday at 5 PM. Sugata Bose Gardiner, Professor of Oceanic History and Affairs, Harvard University, will deliver a lecture on ‘A few pearls from an ocean of Learning’. On the occasion, a bronze bust of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar sculpted by Amiya Nimai Dhara will also be inaugurated by Sugata Bose. The programme will also be available virtually.
