SHILLONG, Sep 30: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday said that although the COVID-19 fears continue to loom large in state, resuming physical classes is also a must.
“There is no vaccine so far for people below 18 years but physical classes are also a must and we have seen across the country how states have reopened educational institutes and the state government here, taking into consideration the need of students, decided to resume physical classes,” said Rymbui.
The education minister also informed that many students, parents and teachers from rural areas had earlier not only said that online classes, due to connectivity issues, do not suffice but had also appealed for resumption of physical classes.
The government took the decision to reopen physical classes after taking cognisance of the issues face during online learning, Rymbui said, adding that the permission is not only subject to review by the deputy commissioners concerned or the managing committee from time to time but will depend on case-to-case basis.
He also expressed content over the pace of vaccination drive in Meghalaya. “I am very happy that now maximum number of citizens, who are 18 years and above, have been vaccinated and many have been double-vaccinated. I hope that in the coming months all the citizens of the state will complete their vaccination,” Rymbui said.a
