SHILLONG, Oct 5: Social activists Angela Rangad and Agnes Kharshiing have appealed to the general public to join the chorus for the revelation of the ground realities behind the implementation of governmental projects and schemes in Meghalaya, and ensuring accountability at all levels.
“We will do wherever needs to be done and other citizens should be vigilant and do so too. It is our right to know and we have to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels,” asserted Rangad.
“We have to seriously examine how infrastructural projects, which are meant for people, have instead become means to enrich bureaucrats, technocrats and politicians,” she added.
Kharshiing, too, echoed similar views, while informing that an RTI application will soon be filed. “We need the society to join in,” she said.
“If the representative does not represent the people under the constituency and instead represents some political gain and followers only, then it is time we should start asking questions,” Kharshiing said.
