TURA, Oct 7: The Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association has asked the Meghalaya Government to truncate the syllabi for the 2022 board examinations, arguing that schools across state were unable to conduct normal classes owing to the second wave of COVID-19.
In their appeal to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, the teachers pointed out that the online classes this year were predominantly limited to students from urban areas while the students from rural areas had to bear the brunt of poor network connectivity and unavailability of electronic devices to attend classes.  “We would like to bring to your notice that some portions of the syllabus were reduced during the first wave (of COVID-19) too. The situation is not so different this time and we would urge you to do the same this time as well, keeping in view the welfare of the students,” the Association said.
It dreaded that the state government’s failure to address the issue would result in low pass percentage and an increase in dropouts.
