Nongpoh, Oct 18: The Ri Bhoi Students’ Union (RBSU) has decided to revive its demand for a government college in Ri Bhoi and informed that it will soon submit a memorandum to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui in this regard.
Union president, Everjoy Nongpluh, said that the demand for the government college was stayed owing to the pandemic situation.
Now that things have started returning to normalcy, the Union will again pursue the matter until it becomes a reality, Nongpluh added.
Ruing that all the pleas for the government college fell on deaf ears in the past, he suggested the government to upgrade the Eastern Ri Bhoi College to a government college if it cannot set up a new one.
“We had earlier had discussions with the concerned authorities at the Eastern Ri Bhoi College for the upgrade of the existing college into a government college, which they unanimously agreed to,” Nongpluh said.
He also argued that the state government should address the issue solemnly if it wants to promote education in the district, especially among the ones who come from underprivileged families.
