SHILLONG, Nov 13: A women’s organisation, We the Women of India, has moved the Commissioner and Secretary of Social Welfare department, expressing disappointment over the delay in filling up the vacancies in Meghalaya State Commission for Women.
Adv. Shobha Gupta, founder president of the organisation, in her letter, said that the Meghalaya State Commission for Women is functioning without its chairperson since October 2020. “It is also disturbing to notice that after the retirement of the Member Secretary in August 2021, the State Commission has no member either. This is very disheartening that an institution like Meghalaya State Commission for Women is rendered non-functional for want of its members and the Chairperson,” the letter said.
She also argued that the functions and duties of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women are much broader than just addressing complaints.
