GUWAHATI, Dec 12: As many as 1,332 students will receive their final degrees during the seventh convocation of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to be held at the university on December 15. Among the graduates are gold medalists and 11 scholars who will be receiving their PhD degrees.
Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, who is the Visitor of USTM, will preside over the function.
Governor Malik will also confer the honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) degree upon Cachar Cancer Hospital director, Padma Shri Dr Ravi Kannan for his contributions in facilitating equitable and accessible healthcare services and offering cancer care to the underprivileged communities of North East.
Besides, the honorary D.Sc degree will be conferred upon Dr Abdul Wase, a professor at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio (USA), in recognition of his contributions in the field of cardiac care and extensive philanthropic activities for the underprivileged society.
The Governor will also confer the honorary Doctorate of Letters (D.Litt) degree upon senior journalist and editor-in chief, Prag News, Prasanta Rajguru, for his contributions in the field of journalism, giving legitimacy to people’s voice and augmenting the role of media.
Several renowned vice-chancellors (VCs) including IGNOU VC Prof Nageshwar Rao; Rajiv Gandhi University (AP) VC, Prof Saket Kushwaha; NEHU VC Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla and Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences VC Prof Dhruba Jyoti Borah will grace the occasion, besides, IIT-Guwahati Director TG Sitharam; CSIR-NEIST Director G Narahari Sastry, and Director-General, Construction Industry Development Council, PR Swarup.
