TURA, Dec 20: West Garo Hills Police has unearthed a live hand grenade along with some ammunition in a village in West Garo Hills on Monday and destroyed the explosive during a counter-insurgency operation in the area.
Based on intelligence inputs about a hidden consignment of explosives, the district police conducted a special operation at Du.magitok village, which is approximately 15 KM away from Tura, and unearthed the items believed to have been left behind by a criminal gang.
Police unearthed one live grenade and six live rounds of 7.62 mm ammos and since the grenade had the potential to explode when handled, which could lead to injury or death, the explosive was destroyed at the site itself.
