MAWKYRWAT, Jan 2: Days after promising a house to a family of two orphan siblings from Mawpon-Markhew locality under Jakrem village in South West Khasi Hills, the Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Youth Wing, Mawkyrwat Constituency, has finally handed over the house built through donations to the beneficiaries on Friday.
The siblings — Badashisha Wartde (6) and Elisa Wartde (1) — are being looked after by their maternal grandmother, Phloran Wartde, following the demise of their mother and father.
Speaking after the inauguration of the house, general secretary of the HSPDP Youth Wing, Mawkyrwat Constituency, Elevenson Wanniang, said that the was auspicious for the youth HSPDP and the siblings and their family, particularly.
“As youths, we have responsibilities to always extend support to help the poor and needy. Service to people is service to God. Your contributions did not go to waste, but it has brought satisfaction and I believe that it will be a benefit to this family who needed help,” Wanniang said while thanking all the members of the youth wing for their contribution.
He informed that the HSPDP Youth Wing had started building the house in November last year after learning about the problems of the two orphans.
Their grandmother, Phloran Wartde, on the other hand, thanked the HSPDP Youth Wing for their assistance. “We have nothing to give you, but you will always be in our prayers,” she said.
