Ban on illegal killing of fish in EKH

SHILLONG, Jan 3: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, in an order on Monday, has prohibited the illegal killing of fishes in water bodies falling under the district with use of “explosives, fishing nets, poisonous chemicals and other destructive fishing practices by any persons”.
In the order, the district magistrate noted that some miscreants have been using such destructive practices along the stretch of river Umngot, river Umlow and river Umngi [through Kenbah (Syntein), Kenmynsaw (Syntein), Domskong (syntein) Mawrapat, Mawsawa Mawkasain, Kenbah Malai, Phlangwanbroi, Kynrang, Rangweng, Pyndensohsaw, Jyllep, Khiehriat, Pomblang, Laitumsaw, Dangar, Dangar Dop, Umsawrang, Photstein, Umlynter, Lalpani and Pynden Borsora] under East Khasi Hills.
She added that such rampant killing of fish may result in endangerment of aquatic life and use of poisonous chemicals may have an adverse impact on the people living in the surrounding areas, unless prevented.
