SHILLONG, Jan 3: The state government has targeted to vaccinate around 2.6 lakh teenagers in the age group of 15-18 within three months, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Health, Prestone Tynsong said on Monday while launching the special vaccination drive at the Rynjah State Dispensary on Monday.
A total of 874 teenagers were vaccinated in the state on Monday.
Tynsong said vaccination of children is an aspiration of every citizen of the state.
“We were worried about this age group as we need to send them back to schools and other institutions and we are happy that we have launched this vaccination drive,” he said while requesting parents to come forward and ensure that their children get vaccinated.
“The total population of the 15-18 age group is around 2.6 lakh and we would like to complete the exercise within 2 or 3 months,” he said, adding that the government may create more vaccination centres and even go to the villages.
Stating that there is not much impact of COVID-19 in the state at present, Tynsong expressed optimism that the government will contain the virus, be it “Delta or Omicron”.
