SHILLONG, Jan 2: The ice between GVK EMRI and its employees is yet to be broken as the Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU) has announced a weeklong strike starting Monday midnight to demand the increase of their salaries.
The agitating employees on Monday alleged that only promises have been made by the firm right from 2018, but no action has been taken, which has in turn put the workers in a difficult position. The workers have also alleged that they are earning less salary, while job security is another aspect they are looking for.
Meanwhile, sources said that the state government has reached out to the agitating employees over the phone urging them to keep the strike on status quo. It was also said that the Joint Director of National Health Mission and the state government have updated the agitating employees about the status of the new wages.
The employees, however, are supposed to meet the authorities on Tuesday. The government has maintained that healthcare services should not be disturbed amidst the pandemic.
