SHILLONG, Jan 4: Two days after 160 residents of Iapmala village in East Jaintia Hills took ill after partaking in a community feast on New Year, the Food Safety officials have sent the samples for testing to ascertain the reason behind the mass hospitalization.
Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Tuesday said most of the affected people were children, women and the elderly. “The symptoms range from fever, vomiting to diarrhoea. The patients have been prescribed antibiotics, vitamin pills and other medicines,” he said.
“Samples have been collected. They are saying it is food poisoning. Hopefully we will get the facts soon,” Shylla said.
