SHILLONG, Jan 8: The Ministry of Home Affairs has restored the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of Missionaries of Charity (MoC), an institution founded by Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa. The move has come nearly two weeks after the Union government refused to renew the FCRA registration of the Charity.
Against the backdrop of this development, the All India Trinamool Congress has said that the MHA restored the FCRA registration of the Missionaries of Charity after sustained pressure from the All India Trinamool Congress.
Even party MLAs like Charles Pyngrope and George Lyngdoh tweeted on the matter stating that the condemnation from AITC supremo, Mamata Banerjee, led to the restoration of the licence.
“Under such an able leadership, AITC will continue to fight for the people’s cause and ensure justice for all,” the tweet said.
It may be noted that FCRA registration is a mandatory requirement to receive foreign funds. Kolkata-based Missionaries of Charity’s FCRA registration is now valid till December 31, 2026.
