TURA, Jan 11: West Garo Hills (WGH) Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday strictly prohibited the movement of persons within 100 meters from the Indo Bangladesh border   from 06:00 pm to 06:00 am with immediate effect.

In a order issued in this regard, Ram Singh stated that the decision was made to thwart the illegal activities of international gangs, criminals etc along the Indo Bangladesh border within the district.

The prohibition has been issued in an effort to prevent smugglers from engaging in illegal transportation of contraband over the border and after reports were received of terrorists and fundamentalists trying to sneak in through the border during the night which would adversely affect the security of the state.

Meanwhile, in view of the new variant of Civid-19 surging in other parts of the state, the deputy commissioner, in a separate order has revised night curfew in the district from 10 PM to 5 AM.

Other restrictions as per the order include ban on public gatherings, mandatory production of RTPCR certificate or getting tested at entry point for persons entering the state besides others. An advisory has also been issued for citizens to strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines.
