Shillong, Jan 17: The State Cabinet on Monday approved the shifting of State Government administrative buildings to Mawpdang-Mawkhanu in New Shillong Township (NST).
Talking to reporters, Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui informed that the state government would acquire around 807.78 acres of land in the NST for this purpose.
“We have taken the decision taking into consideration the congestion of Shillong city and the need to build a planned city in the NST,” Rymbui said.
He also informed that the foundation stone for the same will be laid on January 21 as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of 50 year’s of statehood by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Taking into consideration on the need for holistic development of childhood, Home Minister informed that the Cabinet had also approved the Early Childhood Development Mission which is an externally aided project.
According to him, the programme will be implemented in a convergence mode with involvement of the Social Welfare department, Education department and stakeholders.
He said that the children will get the benefits of health care and education through this mission.
Informing that there are 1500 plus villages which are not covered under the ICDS Anganwadi programme, he said that the government hopes to be able to cater to the children who needs the care at an early stage.
He said more than 4 lakh children falling under the age group of 0-6 years will benefit.
“This mission is an externally aided programme and tentatively it is Rs 350 crores,” he said.
