SHILLONG, Jan 21: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) today commemorated the 50th anniversary of statehood in a very special way by organising a voluntary blood donation camp at four different districts of the state in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council, Regional Blood Bank, Lawmali, Licence Blood Banks, Civil Hospital Nongpoh, Jowai and Tura and Ka Ai Jingim Organization.
The MCA officials and players donated blood. An awareness programme was held before the blood donation camp.
Several MCA officials including Honorary Secretary of MCA Gideon Kharkongor, Honorary Treasurer of MCA Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, Joint Secretary of MCA Chiang Shira, and President Ri-Bhoi District Cricket Association Rayonald Kharkamni, attended the camp at various locations.
Altogether more than 100 attended the camp today. Few donors expressed satisfaction on donating for the first time.
Polly, a member of the senior women’s team being a first timer was hesitant initially but after the awareness and the counselling was more convinced of the safety measures taken by the blood bank.
“On this auspicious day of statehood, I can gift my blood to save lives and nothing is more satisfying than that,” said Akash Choudhury, a member of the senior men’s team.
The MCA will continue the Blood donation camp on January 25 at Shillong.
