SHILLONG, Jan 22: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is contemplating to complete the entire process of setting up its state unit by next month, a move that has been delayed for quite some time although the party made its entry into the state two months ago.
Initially, the AITC, which had no base few months ago in Meghalaya, planned to constitute its state unit before Christmas. However, party leaders are now optimistic that the state unit will be officially constituted by next month.
State president of the AITC, Charles Pyngrope, on Saturday said that all party members were busy and that they did not want to rush the process, which is why the state unit has not officially been constituted till date.
“Unofficially, we have already formed it and even the state coordination committee is already in place and once all the formalities are completed, we shall have our state unit by next month,” Pyngrope said.
Informing that the formation of party’s blocks in different constituencies has already begun, the AITC Meghalaya chief also downplayed the assumption that the party is not acceptable in the state. He added, “In fact many people of substances called me and expressed their desire to join the party and they must have realised that our party is not just any other ordinary party,” he said.
Reacting to a query about the response towards the party in Khasi Hills region, Charles said that there will be many who would like to malign and discourage people from joining the party but, on the contrary, there is a positive response from the general public towards the party.
It may be noted that the AITC made its entry in the state with a bang after 12 of the 17 Congress MLAs deserted the grand-old party and joined AITC.
