Itanagar to host next CPA, Indian Region Zone III, annual conference

Shillong, Jan 31: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh today informed that the 18th Annual Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region Zone – III  is likely to be held in Itanagar in the second week of April.

The decision was taken after the of the Executive Committee of CPA, India Zone III & Executive Council, Northeast Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training and Research (NERIPSTER) which was held at Pinewood Hotel here.

The proposal for holding of the conference was suggested by CPA India Region Zone III Chairman and Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly,  Pasang D Sona. He participated in the meeting via video conference as he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also informed that Assembly Secretariats of all eight North Eastern states will propose issues or subjects concerning the interest of the people of the region, which will be discussed in the conference.

“We expect by February 15 we should send all the subject matters related to the North Eastern States,” he said.

During the meeting, Director of NERIPSTER, Hemen Das presented a report on the functioning of the Northeast Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training and Research (NERIPSTER).

Other agendas discussed included, suggestions for amendments to the constitution of CPA & NERIPSTER, proposal for new building, staff quarters, etc. for the institute and enhancement of remuneration of employees etc.

The meeting was also attended by Assam Speaker, Biswajit Daimary, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Speaker,  Tesam Pongte, Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Timothy D. Shira, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Nagaland, Dr. P.J. Anthony, Principal Secretary, Government of Assam,  Hemen Das and Additional Secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh,  Tadar Meena and other officials attended the meeting.

Tripura Speaker, Ratan Chakraborty, also participated via online mode.
