New Delhi, Feb 2: Miram Taron, the 17-year-old boy from Arunachal Pradesh, who was ‘abducted’ by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), in an exclusive interview with India Today, said that he was tied up and given electric shocks. He was released by the PLA on January 27, nine days after he was reported missing.

“They tied up my hands and took me deep into the jungle. On the first day, they tortured me; gave me electric shocks,” he said. “But that was it. They did not torture me from the second day,” he added.

He had been reported missing on January 18. He was taken by the PLA from the India-China border. He was recently handed over to his family by the Indian Army, following which he was accorded a grand reception by the Tuting (Zido) villagers

Taron said he was out hunting with his friends when the Chinese PLA caught him. Initially, he couldn’t understand if they were Indian forces or Chinese. “I was captured and tied up. Later, I was handcuffed and my head was covered with a cloth. I was then taken to a Chinese army camp,” he said. He claimed that he was beaten up as well. “I was given food and water, though,” he added.

On January 19, Arunachal Pradesh MP and BJP leader Tapir Gao said that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China had abducted the 17-year-old boy from the Upper Siang district. Later, Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh’s Pasighat West constituency, Ninong Ering, said that the incident had been confirmed by the SP of the area.

On receipt of the information, the Indian Army immediately contacted the PLA through the established mechanism of the hotline and informed them that the boy, who was collecting herbs and hunting, had lost his way and could not be found.
