Armed robbers strike anew, loot petrol pump in city

SHILLONG, Feb 6: Few weeks after armed miscreants looted a petrol pump in Ri Bhoi district, another filling station in the city was robbed on Saturday night.
Two armed miscreants on a two wheeler barged into Assam Auto Agency petrol pump near Pantaloons store in the city, and looted Rs 2.80 lakhs. The police on Sunday informed that they are still investigating into the matter.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtynger said that they are trying to do their best to nab the people involved in the crime. “So far no one has been arrested,” he said.
According to sources, the armed miscreants came to the petrol pump and entered the cash counter and took away all the cash amounting to more than two lakhs.
The same armed miscreants had also attempted to rob another petrol pump at Nongrim Hills but failed, the sources added.

Meanwhile, United Democratic Party (UDP) general Secretary Jemino Mawthoh on Sunday said, “It is very unfortunate that such incidents are happening in our state and in the city especially. The miscreants have become daring now, therefore the police, and the law enforcing agency need to be extra vigilant,” Mawthoh said while reacting to robbery in patrol pumps.
Stating that now with the pandemic and with all kinds of problems the people have been facing in the past two years, there is an attempt by some misguided elements to disrupt tranquility and peace in the city, he said, adding that if security is not ensured, it will have an impact on the psyche of the people and it will instill a fear psychosis in the minds of the people.
“Safety and security of the citizens should be the top agenda of the government, one has to feel safe in their own home, own state,” he added.
