Job aspirants demand re-exam citing ‘faulty questions’
MAWKYRWAT, Feb 9: Five youths from Mawkyrwat on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Selection Committee (DSC), South West Khasi Hills, C Kharkongkor, alleging “faulty questions” in the written exams of the post of LDA, conducted by the District Selection Committee (DSC), South West Khasi Hills on February 5. The youths while claiming that they found 15 mistakes in the question papers of General Knowledge, Science and Mathematics, demanded re-examination of the above written exams from the district administration and the DSC.

Training for Muga farmers
TURA, Feb 9: In an effort to encourage the Muga seed famers and support their livelihood with sericulture incentives, a one-day skill training cum workshop on Agri Entrepreneurs Development Programme was organised for farmers at Jengjal area in West Garo Hills recently. The programme took place under the chairmanship of Scientist–B and in-charge of P4 Unit, MESSO, CSB, Tura, Dr K Indirakumar. Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Tura, Dr G Singaiah who presided over the event as the chief guest, encouraged the local Muga farmers to develop their existing skills while assuring them assistance on behalf of NEHU. Others who also attended the programme included Nodal Officer, Incubation Center, NEHU, Tura, Dr R Sasikumar, Farm Supervisor, State Sericulture department, Nollingston Sangma, Field Assistant, P4 Unit, MESSO, CSB, Tura, SB Devi and farmers.

Natl Voter Awareness contests

SHILLONG, Feb 9: The Election Commission of India on the occasion of National Voter’s Day 2022 has launched a ‘National Voter Awareness Contest’ with the theme: ‘My Vote is my Future – Power of One Vote’. The contest, scheduled from January 25 to March 15 is open for all age groups and comprises of quiz contest, video making contest, song contest, poster design contest and slogan writing contest. Interested participants may go through the detailed guidelines and terms and conditions of the contest from the ECI website: https://ecisveep.nic.in/contest/ and mail their entries along with the details to [email protected]. The winners of the contest will be awarded with cash prizes, e-certificates, ECI merchandise and will get featured on ECI social media platforms.

Outreach programme in Tura
TURA, Feb 9: As part of the 75 years celebration of India’s Independence, a one-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme and Exhibition on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas and COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour” was held by Field Outreach Bureau, Tura at Walbakgre LP School here. The resource persons of the event included Headmaster of Walbakgre LP School, Dipak Sangma and Senior Medical & Health Officer, DMHO, Tura Dr Gandira Ch Marak. While Sangma remembered the freedom fighters and patriots of India’s freedom movement as well as the A’chik freedom fighter, Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, Marak talked about the need to practice COVID-19 appropriate behavior. Additionally, a quiz competition on India’s Freedom Fighter and “COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour” and an exhibition on the life and struggles of our freedom fighters of our country were also held as part of the event. Pamphlets, booklets, posters on “COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour” and vaccination were also distributed to the participants in the outreach programme.

Heroin, cash seized in WKH
NONGSTOIN, Feb 9: The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Nongstoin PS on Tuesday seized around 10 grams of suspected heroin and cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh from one, Arbinus Lyngdoh Marshillong (24). The bust was conducted at around 11.30 pm on January 8 when the accused, who is also suspected to be the main drug supplier of Themiew area, was caught after a 24-hour chase by the ANTF team. Meanwhile, a case has been registered and the accused is kept under interrogation.

31K trained under PMKVY
SHILLONG, Feb 9: As many as 31,161 candidates have been trained, 22,961 have been certified and 11,374 candidates have placed in Meghalaya under PMKVY-STT till date. Under Skill India Mission, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is delivering skills through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) with an objective to impart short duration skill development training and certification to youths and to make them employable across the country. Under thew state component of PMKVY (2.0 and 3.0), Rs 45,95,62,356 was sanctioned for Meghalaya out of which Rs 24,06,87,318 was disbursed. Out of the disbursed amount under PMKVY, Rs 12,75,72,854 has been utilised by Meghalaya so far.
