SHILLONG, Feb 22: United XI emerged champions of the Shillong Cricket Association Super Division league following a 73-run victory over Royal CC, here on Tuesday.
Earlier, United XI won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 193/5 in 40 overs. Player-of-the-Match Rohit Shah anchored the innings with a patient knock of 72 that came off 93 balls. Yogesh Tiwari also chipped in with a valuable 34 runs. For Royal CC, Bipin Ray took 1/40.
Royal never really got going in their chase as they lost wickets regularly. They were eventually bundled out for 120 in 31.2 overs with Nishanta Chakraborty (31) the top-scorer.
Abir Chakraborty bowled a tight spell to finish with 4/18 from 7 overs while Bijon Dey claimed 4/33 in 6.2 overs to hand United XI a 73-run win.
Jason J Lamare was named Man-of-the-Series.
The closing ceremony was attended by MDC, Jaiaw, Paul Lyngdoh as the chief guest, along with Meghalaya Cricket Association general secretary, Gideon Kharkongar and members of the Shillong Cricket Association.
