TURA, Feb 25: In connection with the state-wide protests held by teachers under the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA), the South West Garo Hills unit of the association on Friday began their sit-in agitation in Ampati.
The demonstration was staged in front of the SDSEO office here, where MUPSTA protested the non fulfillment of their pending demands.
As the association stated, the protest is against the government’s failure to implement the proposed upgradation of approximately 843 adhoc upper primary schools to deficit system.
Informing further on the reasons behind holding their sit-in demonstration, Secretary of MUPSTA, Ampati unit, Kinstar Ch Momin stated that the agitation is to highlight the non-implementation of the DSEL-approved proposal which was supposed to be forwarded to the education department to facilitate the upgradation of the teachers all across the state.
“However, we have learnt that the proposal has been turned down by the government,” Momin said.
