Nongmynsong resident drowns in Umngi river

MAWKYRWAT, Feb 27: A resident of Nongmynsong village in East Khasi Hills, on Sunday, drowned in Umngi river located in South West Khasi Hills after he reportedly went for a swim in the river.
According to official sources, the incident took place around 1 pm, when a group of people had come from Nongmynsong for picnic at Umngi river. While others were enjoying the picnic, one person identified as Man Bahadur Sarki went for swimming in the river and drowned.
It was also informed that he was later brought to Mawkyrwat Community Health Centre but was declared dead by the attending medical doctor.
All legal formalities were observed and the body was handed over to the relatives after receiving the post-mortem exemption order.
