SHILLONG, March 2: The State BJP has claimed that the saffron camp in the Garo Hills region has become strong with the induction of two former MLAs into the party.
This statement comes after former MLA Edmund K Sangma formally re-joined the BJP along with his supporters at the party office in Shillong on Wednesday. Notably, another former MLA, Bluebell K Sangma, had recently joined the party in the regional party office at Tura, West Garo Hills.
“We are happy to welcome many senior political leaders from Garo Hills into the party fold. I am sure that both the former MLAs would contribute to build the party organisation at the grassroots level in Garo Hills region,” Mawrie told reporters after welcoming Edmund Sangma at a brief felicitation function.
He also exuded confidence that the party will perform impressively in the upcoming Assembly elections in 2023 due to the good work being done by the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre.
According to him, the people of the state are availing the benefits of centrally sponsored schemes such as PMGSY, Saubhagya, Jal Jeevan Mission etc.
He said that the central government is trying to ensure that all the schemes reach to the last person. “We have a better chance in the upcoming election. Our party organisation is very strong now whether (it is) at the districts (or) mandals, and up to grassroots level. We hope that the people this time will vote for the BJP to bring a positive change,” Mawrie said.
Speaking after his joining ceremony, Edmund K Sangma appreciated the party leadership for accepting him after his departure from the party. “I pledge that I will work with the party leadership to win the elections. We are going to work together,” the former MLA said.
He, however, emphasised that it is important for the party to be able to form the government on its own in the state.
“The people will be benefitted if we have our own government. There are many good schemes coming from Delhi. But sadly the people are not getting the benefit due to the irregularities in the implementation of these schemes,” he added.
