BSF distributes items worth over Rs 5 lakh in WGH
TURA, March 7: The 100 Bn Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday organised a civic action programme at BOP Dalu in West Garo Hills during which items amounting to over Rs five lakh was distributed among the border populace. As part of the civic action programme, the BSF distributed among border residents solar system inverter sets, RO water purifiers, computer sets with accessories, sport and stationery items, among others. The programme was attended by villagers from BOP Dalu, BOP Kilapara, BOP Chandaboi, BOP Baburambil, BOP Jatrakona et al.

EVs exempted from road tax
SHILLONG, March 7: The state government has exempted electric vehicles in Meghalaya from the purview of road tax, under the provisions of the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy-2021, till March 31, 2026. This was informed by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport department.

Yaba tablets seized; one held
SHILLONG, March 7: One person was arrested in Meghalaya’s South West Khasi Hills district for allegedly trying to smuggle banned Yaba tablets worth nearly Rs 5 lakh to Bangladesh, according to a Border Security Force statement. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of BSF personnel and state policemen apprehended the person on Sunday and recovered 982 Yaba tablets from his possession, they said. “The consignment was confiscated while the apprehended person with his accomplice came to the border area with a purpose to smuggle it to Bangladesh,” the BSF said in the statement. One of the two accused managed to escape from the spot, it said. The person along with the seized contraband was handed over to the state police, the statement added. (PTI)

District-level meet on COVID
TURA, March 7: A district-level stakeholder meeting on COVID-19 vaccination was organised by the Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN) in collaboration with the Health department at Jaksongram village under Rongara Block in South Garo Hills recently. Representatives from the C&RD Rongara, C&RD Block Baghmara, VEC president and secretaries, ASHAs, among others attended the meeting. It may be mentioned that ISRN is implementing the Momentum-Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity (M-RITE) USAID Project. The aim of the project to amplify the vaccination drive in Meghalaya, while laying emphasis on the areas with low vaccination rate, people with comorbidity and the ones living in a far-flung areas. As per the project, various activities are being carried out in remote areas including awareness and sensitisation programmes on vaccination.
