SHILLONG, March 11: Riled members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Hima Sohiong, numbering around 50, stormed into the KHADC on Friday and damaged the entrance gate.
The JAC members were protesting against KHADC CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne and EM in-charge of Elaka, Jambor War for not complying with their demand for removal of Bashemlang Thabah as the Lyngdoh of Hima Sohiong.
Security guards manning the KHADC premises were taken by surprise since the protesters had entered the council premises in small numbers. Once inside, they started shouting slogans condemning Chyne, War and the KHADC.
The JAC members carried placards with writing like “CM Conrad Sangma is responsible for selling the land under Nongwah- Mawtamur to Assam” and “Our boundaries have become smaller since our land is being given away to Assam”.
The JAC members tried to storm into the KHADC building but the security guards managed to close the entrance gate. The JAC members damaged the gate when they attempted to forcibly enter the building
A police team arrived on the spot and managed to douse the growing tension after which EMs, Martle Mukhim and Rangkynsai Kharbuki, called the JAC members for talks.
JAC chairman Purningstar Shabong, later, said that they were demanding the removal of the Lyngdoh since 2019 since he had illegally sold Hima land and was involved in several irregularities.
