SHILLONG, March 12: The Laban Namghar Complex, Shillong, kicked off its centenary celebrations with the inauguration of a causeway at the entrance of the community hall.
The work was initiated and completed at an estimated cost of over Rs 1.5 lakh as part of 67 Battalion of CRPF’s civic action programmes under the leadership of Commandant Alok Bhattcharjee.
Bhattcharjee, who was part of the inaugural programme, in his address, touched upon the historical significance that led to the growth of such institutions at Shillong.
He also said that the civic action programmes are what bring the Force closer to the public.
The programme was also attended by DIG CRPF Anil Kumar.
Meanwhile, the president in-charge of Laban Namghar Complex, Dr Ashim Das, informed that the institution was established with a donation of Rs 50.
During the programme, the Laban Namghar Committee also feted CRPF jawans who were involved in the project.
