SHILLONG, March 16: A tenth-standard student of St. John Bosco Boys Higher Secondary School, Sohra suffered critically injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by one of the teachers on Friday last.
The student’s uncle informed The Shillong Times on Wednesday that his nephew was summoned to the staff room after he had rung the school bell on Thursday last.
“The teacher even broke a plastic chair while assaulting the student. My nephew was lucky as the teacher had intended to hit him on his head,” the uncle claimed, adding that they brought the injured minor to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment on Saturday.
“We had to file an FIR against the teacher before admitting my nephew in the hospital,” the uncle said.
He further said they have shifted his nephew to Bethany Hospital after his condition turned critical.
When contacted, principal of the school, Fr. Gilbert Bhoi said the school authorities suspended the concerned teacher on the day of the incident and the matter has been amicably resolved with the parents and even with the officer in-charge of Sohra police station.
“The police did not take action since we have resolved the matter,” Fr. Gilbert said, adding that the parents had assured him that they would not drag the matter further and spoil the name of the school.
“It is surprising that the family has gone to the press now. It is not true that the student was badly injured,” he added.
