Autumn session in new Assembly building at NST

SHILLONG, March 18: The autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held in the new building at New Shillong Township (NST), Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said on Friday.
Providing an update on the status of the ongoing project, Lyngdoh said the crane for heavy lifting has reached the site and is being assembled following which work on installation of the steel structure for the dome will be completed.
The Speaker recalled that they had projected to complete the civil, electrical and interior work by the end of July this year and added that the delivery of the crane itself took close to a month and a half which delayed the work.
He expressed satisfaction that the construction work has made tremendous progress since the ground work began in 2019.
On the question of funds, Lyngdoh said there was no problem with funding as it was being managed by the state government. In addition, the Centre will provide Rs 100 crore for the project.
Asked about the expenditure incurred so far, the Speaker said he did not the exact figure since the funding was being done by the PWD (Building).
It may be mentioned that the project is being implemented by Uttar Pradesh government PSU, Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd.
