FIR against headman for ‘murder attempt’

NONGPOH March 18: An FIR was lodged against the Headman of Maikhuli village under Umtyrnga area in Ri-Bhoi district on Friday, accusing the Headman, Kleden Sangma, of assaulting one Lascretice Lyngdoh, a resident of the village, and his son with the intention to kill them.
The incident occurred in the village near the Forest Gate on March 16, as per the FIR.
According to the FIR, filed at Pillangkata Police Outpost by Lascretice Lyngdoh, stated that on March 16, Lascretice and his son Donald Dern Lyngdoh went to visit a plot of land, which is owned by his wife, at Maikhuli village Forest Gate, when the incident occurred.
The father-son duo asked a group of around 4-5 people, who were present at the adjacent plot of land, about the ownership of that land, as they had apprehensions of encroachment. But the group called the Headman of the village to clarify on the matter.
The Headman, on arriving at the spot, began assaulting the father and son using weapons, as a result of which the duo sustained injuries. They had to flee the scene to save their lives, according to the FIR.
According to Lascretice Lyngdoh, the adjacent land is owned by the mother-in-law of the Headman of Maikhuli.
