SHILLONG, March 18: To commemorate the festive Basanta Utsav and pay tribute to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, a section of localites celebrated the Basanta Utsav in Brookside on Friday.
As part of the programme, lamp celebration, performances of Rabindra Sangeet, poem recitations and speeches were organised.
The welcome speech was given by Malabika Bisharad who highlighted the history of Brookside where Tagore first set his foot on October 11, 1919.
She also talked about the long standing demand of the people of Shillong concerning the set-up of Rabindra Bhawan at Brookside in Rilbong, Shillong.
Organisations like the Shillong Bengali Students Association (SBSA) paid tribute to the poet by performing the Rabindra Sangeet.
The programme which was attended by around 35 people was organised with permission from Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya and Director Arts and Culture, Meghalaya.
