SHILLONG, March 24: The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF), on Thursday, had a roundtable conversation on religious harmony and interaction with Geshi Lobsang Samten, Chief Abbot of Drepung Monastery, located in South India and one of the three largest Tibetan Monastery-Universities.
This meeting was hosted by the Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Upper Lumparing.
The meeting was moderated by president of SAFF, Bishop P Lyngdoh.
Speaking through an interpreter, Geshi Lobsang Samten said that the purpose of monasteries is not only for studies but for service to the people. He stressed on the importance of love, compassion and patience which are common to all religions.
Others who spoke included Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of the Shillong Archdiocese, Naba Bhattacharjee of the Central Puja Committee, Jasbir Singh of the Shillong Gurudwara, and OR Shallam of Sein Raij Jowai.
In its general meeting held on the same day, the SAFF highlighted the importance of taking precautions against COVID, and appealed to all to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.
