TURA, March 30: The Niksamso Achik Society (NAS) has come down heavily on the Executive Committee led by the NPP in the GHADC for rejecting the motion to discuss the creation of a separate electoral roll for voting in the Council. The issue was raised on Tuesday by the AITC on the first day of the two-day Budget session with the matter being promptly rejected.
“It is condemnable that the NPP EC led by Albinush Marak and Deputy CEM, Nikman Marak, rejected the motion to discuss such an important matter concerning us all. A separate electoral roll is the key point of all MDCs and there is the thought that we are under threat from outsiders,” said NAS president, Tengrak Marak.
He added that para two of the Sixth Schedule has given us clear provision for framing a separate electoral roll on who shall be the voters and contesters for the GHADC election.
“We (NGOs) have been fighting for a separate electoral roll since the inception of the GHADC. However, when such stumbling blocks come from such leaders, it just shows that such leaders need to be thrown out,” he added. NAS felt that the demand for a separate electoral roll needed to be fulfilled.
“We urge all Garo MDCs to keep focusing on this matter until it is accomplished. We the public are behind you on this and will support you through,” added Tengrak.
