SHILLONG, March 31: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said the two committees inquiring into the purported rice scam and the alleged killing of ex-HNLC general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, have been asked to submit their reports at the earliest.
He said he could not find time to study the independent probe panel’s report on Power that was submitted when he was in Delhi for signing the border pact. “We will need a few days to go through the entire report. It is quite a thick report and we should be able to come back to you in a few days,” Sangma told reporters on Thursday.
He appreciated the work put in by the committee to submit the report in a short time.
The Chief Minister said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the power portfolio, honoured his commitment to have the report submitted within March.
The committee looked into various aspects of the functioning of the Meghalaya Electric Corporation Limited and its three subsidiaries – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited.

graft probe report
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said he is yet to receive a copy of the report of the three-member committee probing the alleged corruption and illegalities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
He holds the Power portfolio.
“The committee had submitted its report to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. I will be able to reveal its findings and recommendations once I study the inquiry report in detail,” Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.
The commission had said it prepared the report after looking into relevant records, visiting the offices of MeECL and holding interactions with its officials as well as the officials of its three subsidiaries – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd.
Retired IAS officer Manoj Kumar was the commission’s administrative member while retired executive director of the Rural Electrification Corporation, Sunil Kumar was its technical member.
The commission was constituted in July last year. It was given three months to submit the report, but it had sought an extension on a couple of occasions. On January 4, it was granted a three-month extension.
