SHILLONG, April 1: The state government on Friday set the ball rolling for holding peace parleys with the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council by convening a meeting that was chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and attended by government interlocutor, Peter S Dkhar, Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Chief Secretary RV Suchiang, Acting DGP I Nongrang and other officials.
The discussion comes days after the outfit announced the name of HNYF president Sadon Blah as their representative for the peace talks.
“I have been very clear that every meeting does not have a conclusion. It is just a process and the most important part is that the government is committed to move forward and that is the reason we are ensuring continuous communication is taking place. At this point in time there is limited information I can share but we are continuously pursuing this so that we can reach a logical conclusion,” Sangma said after the meeting.
On the outfit appointing Blah as their interlocutor, the CM said all discussions will now take place between the interlocutors.
Asked about the next round of meeting, the CM said, “It may happen in a week or a day. It is difficult for me to give an update.”
