TURA, April 3: President of the Constitutional Rights’ Forum, Greneth M Sangma has filed an FIR against a teacher of Resubelpara Boys’ Secondary School in North Garo Hills for allegedly assaulting a student who had failed to read a Hindi text in the classroom.
The FIR, filed with the North Garo Hills district police chief, alleged that the Hindi subject teacher had assaulted the student of Class VII with a stick leading to injuries on his arm. The FIR further alleged that four other students, who had shared a photo of the incident, were summoned by the teacher and assaulted as well as threatened with expulsion.
A photo of a child with bruise marks on his arm was submitted along with the complaint.
Greneth, while reminding that corporal punishment has been banned in schools, sought strict action against the teacher as per law.
