BJP reaffirms stand on central schemes implementation
SHILLONG, April 6: The state BJP has reiterated its stand on the implementation of central schemes in the state, stating that they must be implemented in true spirit. “BJP Meghalaya has taken a stand to ensure that the schemes initiated by the BJP Government should be implemented in true spirit. Various steps will be taken up by the karyakartas to communicate to the people in the grassroots to take stock of the implementation of the schemes,” said BJP state vice president, Bernard N Marak. He said that this resolution was made during the BJP’s 42nd Foundation Day celebration held across all districts in the state. While Senior BJP leader, AL Hek and other party leaders from Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills attended the programme in the city office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National President JP Nadda delivered speech virtually on the occasion.
49 portability transactions
SHILLONG, April 6: As many as 49 interstate portability transactions have been made in Meghalaya under Centre’s free foodgrains programme Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). This was revealed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday when Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, in a written reply to a question, informed the House that a cumulative total of about 726 lakh metric tonne (MT) of foodgrains have been lifted and nearly 690 lakh MT foodgrains have been distributed by the states/union territories. About 10 per cent of such transactions take place through portability One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC).
Sensitisation against drug abuse
SHILLONG, April 6: The East Khasi Hills District Administration on Wednesday organised an awareness programme on Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Buddha Bhanu Saraswati (BBS) College, during which students were sensitised on the ill-effects of drug and substance abuse. A statement in this regard informed that the programme was organised in a bid to make the youths aware of the ways to combat drug menace that continues to bedevil the society at large. The gathering was also apprised of Shillong-based rehabilitation centre that provides various facilities for addicts. As part of the programme, an interactive session was also organised for the students during which their doubts and queries were addressed by the resource persons. The programme was attended by District Social Welfare Officer N Umdor, college principal Sanjay Rana, social worker Keshab Lamsal, students, faculty members, et al.
Prog to boost immunisation
SHILLONG, April 6: Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland partook in GAVI-INDIA Strategic Partnership 2022-26 workshop, which was held on Wednesday at Shillong Club. Inaugurated by NHM Meghalaya Director Ramkumar S, the workshop was organised by National Health Mission Meghalaya along with UNDP Meghalaya. The workshop was organised in a bid to devise stratagems towards realisation of cent per cent immunisation among children.
