SHILLONG, April 8: Rural entrepreneurship can address many socio-economic challenges, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has said.
Lyngdoh was speaking as the chief guest at a panel discussion on ‘Entrepreneurship and the Road Ahead: Meghalaya’s next 50’.
As part of Meghalaya’s 50th statehood day celebrations, Women’s College in collaboration with Avenues Shillong organised a cultural event and a panel discussion in the city on Friday.
The Speaker, in his address, contended that rural economy needs the support of micro-enterprises in all the livelihood opportunities. He added that rural entrepreneurship can address many socio-economic challenges.
Lyngdoh also announced that as part of the statehood day celebrations, he will invite leaders of the Hill State Movement for discussions on Meghalaya’s journey to statehood.
East Shillong MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh, who was the guest of honour, lauded the initiative for holding a discussion on entrepreneurship and said that women in Meghalaya have excelled as entrepreneurs.
She said that it was time for the state to engage with women —who are breadwinners in many families — and not only equip them with required skill set but also provide them due recognition.
Ampareen also said that she wishes to see more indigenous bureaucrats who can frame policies that suit the state.
