SHILLONG, April 11: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Monday said the state government has asked Chief Secretary, RV Suchiang to find out ways and means to resume the recruitment process in the state.
The Meghalaya High Court recently ordered a stay on all fresh recruitments until the state government puts a roster system in place for appropriate implementation of the reservation policy.
Asserting that the government had been following provision laid down in the reservation policy despite the absence of a roster system, Tynsong said the state government will submit its affidavit to the High Court to ensure that any fresh recruitment is not affected.
Earlier, hearing a writ petition filed by one Zanera R Marak and others, a two-judge bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W Diengdoh had described the absence of a roster system as a “deplorable state of affairs, which leaves open possibilities of nepotism and arbitrariness and worse forms of subversions”.
“In view of such deplorable state of affairs…the further recruitment processes for all posts in the state will remain stayed in the sense that no further appointments will be made until the roster system is put in place,” the Court had ordered.
The Court had said it is alarming that despite 50 years of the formation of the state and 50 years of reservation in state government jobs, there is no roster system yet.
“Indeed, this bench was constrained to raise a question in course of a recent matter as to how the reservation policy could be implemented without a roster. It is surprising that there are bureaucrats in place and there have been bureaucrats for the last 50 years and it did not dawn on any one of them to ensure that the roster system was put in place before the reservation policy could be appropriately implemented,” the Court had said.
Cops looking into threat mails: Tynsong
Commenting on the threat mails forwarded by a group called ‘Lawei Ba Phyrnai’, Tynsong said the government has asked the police to investigate the case.
“We have asked the police to find out if the threat issued by the group through the media is true or not. Police are inquiring into the matter,” he said.
Asked if the threat mails were an attempt to derail the peace initiative with the proscribed HNLC, he replied in the negative.
“The HNLC and the state government are keen to start the peace talks at the earliest,” Tynsong added.
