Storm wreaks havoc in Umsning; few hurt

NONGPOH, April 11: Strong winds accompanied by rain left several houses damaged and few people injured in Nongdewsaw village under Umsning C&RD Block on Sunday evening.
According to the Headman of Nongdewsaw village, AB Warjri, as many as 15 houses sustained damage. A building of the catholic church was also damaged in the incident and crops were also mangled.
The storm uprooted several trees and damaged electricity poles leaving the village in darkness, the headman said. He added that the loss of property amounts to more than Rs 5 lakh, according to the assessment of the village dorbar.
The headman went on to appeal to the local representatives and the government to provide immediate help to the victims.
