SHILLONG, April 12: The state government is not taking the threat mails from Lawei Ba Phyrnai, a new “terror group”, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Tuesday.
Sangma said a meeting was held on Tuesday with Special DGP, Idashisha Nongrang to take stock of the situation and the police action in this regard.
“The government including the Police and Home departments takes every situation seriously. Anything related to law and order or an email that comes in for us is a serious matter,” he said.
Refusing to share details of the meeting, the CM said the government is working seriously on the case, not just from the technology point of view but also from the point of view of law and order.
“Steps are being taken but having said that we still have to see the validity of the seriousness of this threat,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Special DGP said police are investigating the threat mails and security has been beefed up.
“We have registered a suo motu case and we are investigating. I do not want to comment on what is happening now but we are taking it seriously,” she said.
Asked if the police have made any arrest so far, she replied in the negative. “We are doing the best we can,” she added.
