NONGPOH, April 14: A raging tempest in parts of Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday became a nightmare for many a resident and this chapter of horror has apparently not come to an end as a warning has been issued to the public by the district administration of Ri-Bhoi.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Ri-Bhoi, Arpit Upadhyaya, has advised the general public to bear in mind all the precautions and reminded people to immediately take shelter in the event of a storm/lightning/thunderstorm/hailstorm in their vicinity.
The DC has asked the public to be aware of weak trees/plantation in and around their house and report such a situation, if any, to the concerned authority.
He has asked them to properly store and secure loose boards, corrugated iron or iron sheet and unused tins, etc. that could pose a danger during strong winds.
Pointing out that strong wind can break the doors, windows as well as furniture items, the DC once again called for people’s attention to these household articles.
During lightning, storm or hailstorm, people must check and switch off electrical appliances, avoid venturing outside or walk near the water bodies, the DC advised.
“People must also be on alert for possible landslide, mud flow or sudden flow of water due to heavy rainfall,” he added.
