Free medical consultations & services mark health melas

SHILLONG/NONGPOH/TURA/AMPATI/NONGSTOIN, April 19: As part of the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, various block-level health melas were organised across parts of the state during which people from all walks of life availed free medical consultations and services.
In Ri-Bhoi, the office the National Health Mission (NHM) in collaboration with other line departments on Tuesday organised a one-day Block Health Mela at Patharkhmah Govt. Hr. Secondary School under Jirang C&RD Block.
The locals, who partook in the mela, were provided with health facilities such as screening test, OPD, blood test as well as counselling on government’s health schemes, nutritious food, et al.
The mela was attended by local MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, DM&HO Dr M Syiemlieh, as well as officials from other line departments.
Whilst the DM&HO, in her address, touched upon the objectives of the health mela, the local MLA extended gratitude to the government for organising such a programme.
In Garo Hills, the block-level health mela was organised on Tuesday by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, South West Garo Hills, at Garagre UP School under Zikzak Block.
During the mela, medical services such as NCD and TB screening, counselling, wellness, clinical care, medicines, COVID-19 vaccination, et al, were provided to the locals.
South West Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner, AVD Shira, who was the chief guest, called on people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and avail the benefits of medical schemes provided by the government.
A similar health mela was organised at Kashiabari under Selsella C&RD Block by the Office of the DM&HO, during which locals were provided with various medical facilities.
West Garo Hills DM&HO, Dr. Bijoy Debbarma, who was the chief guest, enlightened the gathering on the governmental schemes.
He also informed that block-level health melas in the district are being organised from April 18 to 22 in a bid to raise awareness among the rural masses.
The DM&HO also called on the people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
In West Khasi Hills, the Block Health Mela was organised at Umdang village under Mawshynrut Block by Office of the DM&HO.
As part of the health mela, villagers were administered vaccines, provided check-up, counselled, etc.
During the health mela, people were also asked to come forward for routine immunisation, institutional delivery and COVID vaccination.
