SHILLONG, April 19: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday conferred the Rotary Vocational Excellence Award 2021-2022 on Hockey Kharumnuid for rendering three decades of voluntary service of traffic regulation at Mawlai Bus Stand, Nicholas J Kharnami in recognition for his service for a green and clean Meghalaya, Dr Bhaskar Borgohain for his contribution to the state’s health sector and Shidalin Marbaniang for her contribution as Meghalaya’s first lady entrepreneur in manufacturing sanitary napkins.
According to a statement, the award ceremony was organised by the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong at Raj Bhavan.
The Governor, in his address, said that Rotary is known globally for its commitment to serve the world community, particularly the less privileged.
“Rotarians are known for their passion for community service; they have performed well to serve society through their notable humanitarian projects like polio eradication, disaster management and others in the field of education, health, sanitation and hygiene, safe drinking water, women empowerment, youth leadership, peace and conflict resolution and public awareness,” the Governor said.
“The same can be said of the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, which has dedicated its service since its formation in 2003 towards humanitarian projects in and around Shillong city,” he added.
Congratulating the awardees, Malik also expressed hope that the recognition will further encourage them to share their skill set for the betterment of people.
