BAGHMARA/TURA, April 22: A vigilant Border Security Force (BSF) along with South Garo Hills (SGH) police on Thursday apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals along with an Indian national while they were making an exchange of drugs, apparently meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The apprehension of the peddlers led to the recovery of 198 Yaba tablets from their possession.
As per a release by the BSF, troops of 43 BN BSF along with Baghmara police cordoned off a suspected area in the Malikona locality of the town.
After searching the suspected area, the joint team of police and BSF personnel apprehended the four miscreants.
“The party seized 198 YABA tablets from their possession, which were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh,” said the BSF release.
The apprehended miscreants have been identified as Rakibul Hoque (22) resident of village Kalapani, Mankachar (Assam), Jaidul islam (24) of the village of Bayapara, PS-Durgapur, Netrakona (Bangladesh), Riazul Hoque (30) of Bijaypur, PS-Durgapur, Netrakona (Bangladesh), Kazimuddin (22) of Bayapara, PS-Durgapur, Netrakona (Bangladesh).
The apprehended persons along with the seized Yaba tablets were handed over to Baghmara Police Station for further action while an FIR was also been registered in this regard.
Police avert drug-smuggling bid in SGH
In another crackdown on the drug menace, police in South Garo Hills on Friday foiled an attempt by a group to smuggle illegal substances to Bangladesh.
According to police, information was received that some unknown persons were going to deliver contraband substances at Malikhona, Baghmara, meant to be sold in Bangladesh.
Following the receipt of the information, an operation was launched during which, a vehicle was intercepted and four persons were detained.
A search of the four persons resulted in the recovery of 198 numbers of Yaba tablets, weighing 20 gms.
The items were immediately confiscated and further investigation was initiated.
