India’s campaign ends with 17 medals

ULAANBAATAR, April 24: Deepak Punia won silver and Vicky Chahar bagged bronze as India signed off with 17 medals (1 gold, 5 silver and 11 bronze) in the Asian Wrestling championships on Sunday.
Punia conceded a 1-6 defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan’s Azamat Dauletbekov in the final to clinch his second consecutive silver and fourth medal overall at the Asian meet. He had won bronze in 2019 and 2020.
On the other hand, Vicky defeated Uzbekistan’s Ajiniyaz Saparniyazov 5-3 in the bronze medal match.
In other Indian action, Mangal Kadyan (61kg) lost his bout 4-6 to Ulukbek Zholdoshbekov, and missed out on a medal. (UNI)
