SHILLONG, April 27: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma is confident that the protracted issue concerning relocation of settlers from Harijan Colony will be resolved soon.
He said that resettlement of the residents was no mean task and added that the government should be lauded for the working on a resolution.
“At one point of time, nothing was moving but today there is some sort of agreement that they will shift,” the CM said.
Asking people to allow the discussions to take place, he said the problem needs to be resolved keeping in mind the sentiments of people from both sides.
Casino in border area to tap market: CM
The CM sought to douse the growing apprehension over legalised gambling in the state, saying that the plan for a casino and any future expansion will only be along the interstate border bordering Guwahati and not anywhere else in Meghalaya.
The idea is capture the market in that line, he said.
Arguing that the government needs revenue, he said, “We have so many aspects of the social sector which we need to fund but while we look at revenue we also have to ensure that the social fabric of the state and the youth are not impacted. So we are clear that it will be set up only beyond Khanapara bordering Guwahati since the market is bigger there.
He also pointed out that the objective of the government to bring in a law is to ensure that different forms of gaming, both online and offline, are regulated.
The Chief Minister also made it clear that strong regulations will be put in place to bar the entry of locals and if anyone will be found in violation, the licenses of the operators will be cancelled.
